Summer’s Yang energy encourages activity and expression—but it can also lead to overstimulation, anxiety, or emotional volatility if left unchecked. TCM teaches us to stay grounded by balancing this excess with supportive, calming practices like acupressure. Here are five points to help you stay centered and calm:
1. Shen men (spirit gate): Calms the mind, supports restful sleep.
Shen men is a great point to calm the mind.
2. Nei guan (inner pass): Eases anxiety, nausea, and emotional distress.Nei guan is also helpful for nausea from pregnancy, cancer treatments, or motion sickness.
3. Yong quan (gushing spring): Grounds excess energy, especially from the head.
Yong quan is known as a very grounding point. Walking barefoot around the yard is a common practice to connect this point to the earth and ground the meridians.
4. Tai chong (great surge): Moves Liver Qi, relieving stress and irritability.
Tai chong is a great point for stress management. It can also help with headaches.
5. San yin jiao (three yin intersection): Harmonizes digestion, calms the mind, nourishes Yin.
San Yin Jiao is also a common point used for gynecological issues like menstrual cramps.
Apply light pressure for 1–2 minutes on each side, breathing slowly. Do this in the evening or during stressful moments to bring yourself back to center. Combined with mindfulness, cooling foods, and hydration, acupressure becomes a powerful summer support tool rooted in ancient medicine.
BONUS TIP: If you have a child who struggles to calm down at bedtime, these acupressure points can be used with gentle pressure for a little bedtime massage for your kiddo!
As always, our providers are happy to help teach you how to apply these acupressure points at home! It is even better if you can then teach a partner how to apply them so you can kick back and relax! Give us a call or book online today!
